MSC CARs engineered with a CAR enhances immunosuppression

Mayo Clinic

Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs), have been used in cell therapy for treatment of various inflammatory conditions. Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) engineered MSCs have the potential to create an MSCs with higher immunosuppression activity and in-vivo persistence.

In this technology, we have engineered MSC using the CAR technology to enhance their immunosuppression. We optimized the structure and signal needed for CAR-MSC to enhance their immunosuppression. Our data demonstrate that CAR-MSC cells directed to gut integrins are able to suppress T-cell function in vitro and in-vivo, and are safe in canine studies.

We are developing CAR-MSC as a platform for the treatment of autoimmune diseases and believe that this can lead the path for innovative therapy.
