Non-viral formulation delivers lubricin genes

University of Iowa

Post-traumatic osteoarthritis weakens the regulation of lubricin gene and increases shear stress within the joints.

Inventors at the University of Iowa have developed a novel non-viral formulation for delivery of lubricin genes. In this novel delivery system pDNA loaded in PLGA nanoparticles for intra-articular injection to enhance lubricin expression in joints. The novel formulation of delivery provides higher stability of lubricin genes which mitigate the need for multiple injections.
